Letter to the Guardian in response to "Britishness" article.

Being British means suppressing your Englishness and pretending that you have a lot in common with the Scottish, Welsh, Irish and ethnic minorities.

You don't, of course, because none of these people actually like you. They are free to dislike you, and say they dislike you, without being labelled racists.

If you reciprocated and told them that the feeling was mutual, you are instantly labelled "racist" and ENGLISH.

It's at that point that you realise the truth. You are actually ENGLISH and there is no such thing as British.

Which is why the Guardian is unlikely to publish this post - it might give too many English people out there some "dangerous ideas" about who or what they really are.

On Saturday, labour unionists, pacifists, environmentalists and students marched through central Tokyo, yelling slogans and calling for an end to the U.S. troop presence in Japan (from the Daily Mail).

After the war, the leniency of the American occupation amazed the Japanese populace. That, combined with Marshall Aid, enabled their country to rise from the ashes.

Ditto most of Europe.

What short memories people have got!

In the event of another war, I know who I would want on my side.

And no - it isn't those sanctimonius, hand-wringing labour unionists, pacifists, environmentalists and students.

I haven't figured out yet who will be England's first.

The Jews

The Jews were unwanted by practically everyone in Europe.

They are a gifted people who contribute much to the countries in which they settle, so why no-one should want them is senseless.

That is why I am glad that they now have their own country. Israel is a very small country, yet many people want to take even that away from them.

No wonder the Israelis fight so hard for it. It's all they've got.

Schools are half-hearted about "Britishness" lessons

It's been reported that schools in England are somewhat half-hearted about compulsory "Britishness" lessons.

Perhaps it's because these "Britishness" lessons are only taught in English schools - they are not taught in Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish schools.

They are deliberately designed to suppress feelings of English national identity among English school pupils. The Unionist politicians (Labour, Conservative and Liberal) all know that "Englishness" is the only force capable of challenging "Britishness" - the basis of their virtual monopoly of power.
